The Nibble Cat is a gourmet among the sweets lovers and enjoys sharing with everybody having a sweet tooth. This cat is not the biggest cat there is but she is one of the most spacious cats out there, a feature cats usually not possess.

This Crochet Cat is a cute little Amigurumi basket for all your sweets or other small things like keys, coins or office items.

The here depicted Amigurumi cat basket was crocheted using the “Schachenmayr Catania” with a 2.5 mm crochet hook. The basket is X cm (X inch) long at the bottom of the basket and X cm (X inch) wide. The basket has a height of X cm (X inch). Using a bigger yarn and/or crochet hook will result in a bigger Nibble Cat.

Crochet the Basket

The basket is crocheted from an oval as base. You start the oval from a normal chain with single crochet stitches. Even though you do not start this crochet piece from a Magic Ring but with a chain, you crochet in spiral rounds (but oval spiral rounds), that is why you still have to set a marker with Round 2. In Round 5 you are instructed to crochet only into the back loops for one round. The back loop is the loop laying in the rear on top of a stitch.

Use the check boxes to mark your finished rounds, rows and steps.

  • You start making a Magic Ring using the black yarn.
  • 1. Row: Crochet 21 chain stitches. (21 stitches)
  • 2. Row: Crochet 19 SC along the chain. Stitch in a marker of any kind with the first SC you crochet. The first SC is crochet into the 2nd stitch from the hook. Crochet 3 SC into the last stitch of the chain. (22 stitches)

Crochet 18 SC into the stitches along the backside of the chain. Crochet 2 SC into the last stitch of the backside. The whole crochet piece should look like very slim oval and the marker should be laying in the next stitch. (42 stitches, counting from the marker one time around)

Finishing the Nibble Cat

After finish crocheting all the pieces, you should have an assembly kit in front of you that looks like this:

Amigurumi Cat Basket Assembly Kit

Ears: First sew on the ears to the head. Before sewing on the ears press them together so that the thread hanging from the ear is hanging from the most left or right stitch and that hey have a small bulge to them.

Sew on the ears 1 to 2 stitch rows left and right from the to middle of the head, so that they lay on the same line as the “neck” (the flat piece after the head crocheted in rows). Use the pictures as guidance to position the ears correctly.

Head and Body: Next you sew the head to the body (the basket). Lay the “neck part” of the head, the flat part after the head, into the basket and sew the head to the inside of the basked. Only the “neck” should be sewed to the wall of the basket, so that it is sewed from the bottom to the top of the wall of the basket. Use the pictures as guidance to position the head correctly.

Tail: Sew on the tail on the opposite side of the head underneath the basket directly after the stitch edge created by crocheting only into the back loops.

Legs: At last you sew on left and right of the basket wall the cat legs. Again use the pictures to position the legs correctly.
