Crochet the Giraffe Head and Body

The head and the body of the giraffe are crocheted in one piece. It is crocheted in spiral rounds with single crochet stitches only. If you use safety eyes instead of stitched eyes take care to attach them after Round 11, otherwise it will be difficult to do so later. Use the pictures of the finished crochet giraffe as guideline to position the safety eyes correclty so that they do not interfere with the snout. At the end of the body the patterns asks you to crochet only into the back loops, those are the loops laying in the rear on top of a stitch.

Use the check boxes to mark your finished rounds, rows and steps.

Finishing the Crochet Giraffe

After finish crocheting all the pieces, you should have an assembly kit in front of you that looks like this:

Amigurumi Giraffe Assemble Kit

Body: If not done yet, close the bottom of the body. To do this take your blunt tapestry needle holding the thread laying at the opening. Stitch with the needle through the front loop of all 6 stitches and pull tight. Push the needle through the now closed opening and let it escape through the side of the body or the head. Pull the thread tight again, cut the thread close to the body or head and knead the piece. The thread should dissapear inside and the bottom is cleanly closed.

Legs: Begin sewing the first leg one stitch row over the row with the visible edge (created by the round crocheted only into the back loops). Both legs are the same, so it does not matter which leg you sew on first. Still, sew on the first leg as the right leg. Sew on the second leg around 7 stitches to the right from the first leg. Both legs should be on the same level as the bottom of the body, that the giraffe is able to sit properly.

Use the pictures as guidance to position the legs correctly.

Arms/Front Legs: Sew on the arms 3 to 4 stitch rows over the legs. Take care not to sew the arms onto the neck area (the smallest part between head and body). Take again the pictures as guidance to position the arms correctly.

Tail: Sew or stitch on the tail with an additional yellow colored thread in the middle of the backside of the giraffe body just over the stitch edge.

Sew On Giraffe Tail

Spots: Position the spots on the back of the body and sew them on. Feel free to crochet even more spots and place them wherever you want them. Even if you add sew on nospots at all everybody will recognize your crochet creation as a giraffe.

Snout: Fill the snout with a bit of polyfill before sewing it to the face. Do not position the snout directly in the middle of the face or you are forced to stitch the eyes on top of the head. Use the pictures as guidance for a good position.

Horns and Ears: Attach the horns one to two stitch rows left and right from the middle of the top of the head. The ears are attached just a few more stitch rows left and right from the attached horns.

Eyes: Finally stitch the eyes with a black thread just over the snout. For the giraffe i stitched the eyes from top to bottom (or vice versa), not left to right.
