Crochet Snowman Scarf

  • Do a slip knot on your crochet hook with the red yarn.
  • 1. Row: Crochet 31 chain stitches. (31 stitches)
  • 2. Row: Crochet 30 SC, 1st SC is crocheted into the 2nd stitch from the crochet hook. (30 stitches)
  • Cut the yarn generously and pull it through the loop on your crochet hook. Knot together both threads and cut the threads close to the knot.

Crochet the Snowman Hat

The snowman hat is crocheted same as the beginning of the snowman head. Since the hat has the same size as the head it sits tight and will not move of the head. Feel free to use a color combination that you like the most, i think green and red are a most fitting combination..

Crochet Snowman Hat

  • You start making a Magic Ring using the green yarn.
  • 1. Round: 6 SC into Magic Ring. (6 stitches)
  • 2. Round: [ 2 SC into next stitch. ] Repeat from [ to ] till end of round. (12 stitches)

Create the Hat Bobble

The hat bobble is not crocheted but crafted simple some red yarn, a scissor and your little finger. First wrap the red yarn 20 times around the top part of your little finger.

Wrap Bobble

Pull the wrapped yarn of your finger and pull your used crochet hook through the bundle. Hold the bundle so that the crochet hook is laying on one side of the bundle and you are holding the other side.

Keep Bobble Tight

Now knot a piece of thread around the bundle and between the part you are holding with your finger and the one part the crochet hook is pushed through. After doing the knot pull out the crochet hook, adjust the knot you did and center it in the middle. When adjusted pull the knot tight and do a second knot.

Now cut open the loops on both sides, frog the single strings, cut too long threads and done is the bobble.

Crochet the Snowman Carrot Nose

The snowman carrot nose is crocheted in spiral rounds with single crochet stitches. If wanted, the nose can be crocheted with only 4 stitches into the Magic Ring in Round 1 to create a more narrower nose but since crocheting with only 4 stitches can be tricky it is recommended to crochet with 5 stitches.

Crochet Nose

  • You start making a Magic Ring using the yellow yarn.
  • 1. Round: 5 SC into Magic Ring. (5 stitches)
  • 2. – 3. Round: 2 rounds, each round 5 SC. (5 stitches)
  • Cut the yarn generously and leave long tail for sewing.

Finishing the Snowman

After finish crocheting all the pieces, you should have an assembly kit in front of you that looks like this:

Amigurumi Crochet Snowman Assembly Kit

Body: If not done yet, close the bottom of the body. To do this take your blunt tapestry needle holding the thread laying at the opening. Stitch with the needle through the front loop of all 6 stitches and pull tight. Push the needle through the now closed opening and let it escape through the side of the body or the head. Pull the thread tight again, cut the thread close to the body or head and knead the piece. The thread should dissapear inside and the bottom is cleanly closed.

Closed Snowman Body

Arms and Legs: Both arms and legs are closed as the opening of the body but DON’T cut the leftover thread.

Next we will attach the arms and legs to the body. Both the arms and the legs are not sewed onto the body but just knotted to the body to keep kind of a “mobility”. Start knotting the legs to the body.

Sew On Snowman Leg

The first leg is attached direclty over the stitch edge created by the round crocheted only into the back loops. Use the dull tapestry needle holding the white thread hanging from the first leg and stitch through a stitch over the stitch edge and let it escape through a stitch directly next to the first stitch you pushed the tapestry needle through. Now do several knot with the thread you used so that the leg is attached to the body. Take again your tapestry needle and pull the thread through the body and let it escape somewhere on the body, pull the thread tight and cut it close to the escaping stitch. Knead the body and the leftover thread should dissapear into the body. That first leg will be the right leg.

Now count from the first leg 7 stitches to the right and attach same as the first leg the second leg. This will be the left leg.

The arms are attached the same way as the legs 4 stitch rows over the legs. Thanks to the mobility of the attached bodyparts by knotting the snowman can sit or dangle around.

After attaching all extremities your snowman has now a front- and a backside. The frontside is the side where the arms and legs are laying closer to each other.

Bobbel and Hat: Now the bobble is attached to the hat. Use the tapestry needle again holding one of the leftover yarn of the bobble and pull it through the top middle of the hat. Pull the second thread through a stitch directly next to the middle through and knot both threads on the inside of the hat together.

Snowman Hat with Bobble

Nose: The nose is sewed onto the middle of the head, do not sew the nose too close to the neck (the slimmest part between head and body) since the scarf will be knotted to this area. Use the pictures as guidance to position the nose correctly.

Sew On Snowman Nose

Eyes: If you have not used safety eyes, stitch on with black yarn some eyes left and righ from the nose. Again, use the pictures as guidance for a good position.

Stitch On Snowman Eyes

Buttons: Again use black yarn to stitch on small buttons on the body of the snowman.

Stitch On Snowman Buttons

Finish: Finally, simply knot one time the scarf around the neck part of the snowman body.

Snowman Keychain

Since the crocheted snowman is relatively small and dangly it is a perfect snowman keychain for bags and purses.

First sew the hat to the body, since the actual keychain will be attached to the bobble on the hat. Next crochet the ribbon that will hold the keyring.

  • Do a slip knot on your crochet hook with the red yarn.
  • 1. Step: Crochet 15 chain stitches. (15 stitches)
  • 2. Step: Pull the chain through the keychain and crochet 1 SC into the 5th stitch from the crochet hook, so that the crochet chain loops one time around the keychain.
  • 3. Step: Crochet 10 SC.
  • 4. Step: Cut the yarn generously and knot both threads several times to the bobble. Afterwards cut both thread down to the same size as the bobble-threads.

Finished is your very own snowman keychain!
