Assembling

Legs: After you’ve finished crocheting all pieces, start sewing the legs onto the body. Start sewing the first leg onto the body directly over the edge that was created by the round that was crocheted only into the back loop. Sew on the second leg 4 to 5 stitches left or right from the first leg, again just over the edge.

Arms: Sew the arms left and right onto the body, 1 stitch row under the “neck”. Do not sew the arms directly over the legs but slightly behind the legs.

Eyes: Attach the safety eyes after the 7th stitch row counting from the top center of the head. The eyes are 4 stitches apart from each other.

Nose: Sew the nose to the head slightly down in the middle between the eyes.

Ears: Sew the ears 3 to 4 stitches right and left from the eyes onto the head, so that the upper part of the ear is on the same height as the eyes.

Tail: Embroider the tail with a Capri colored thread. Embroider the tail in the middle of the back onto the Signal Red area of the body. Pull the thread horizontally several times from one stitch through the next. Repeat this multiple times to create a small stubby tail.

Beard: Sew the beard with a white thread from ear to ear under the nose onto the head. The outer ends of the beard lie directly at the top of the ears.

Sideburns: Use the tapestry needle to pull a white thread through the outermost stitch on the beard and the underlying stitch on the head. Let the needle come out further up the head (see pictures). Again push the needle and thread through the same stitch on the beard and head and exit at another stitch further up. Repeat 4 to 5 times.

Eyebrows: Attach the eyebrows diagonally above the eyes onto the head.

Hat: Fill the tip of the hat with some polyfill and then fold the tip of the hat. In order to keep the tip that way, sew the folded tip to the lower part of the hat with a Signal Red thread.

Put the hat on the head of Papa Smurf. If required, the hat can also be sewn on.
