The bookmark is not only eco friendly and reusable, but also quicker to crochet than finding a real leaf outside your home.

This leaf bookmark is crocheted with chain stitches, slip stitches, single crochet stitches, double crochet stitches, treble crochet and double treble crochet stitches in rows and is easy to crochet.

The depicted leaf bookmark has been crocheted with the “Schachenmayr Catania” yarn with a 2.5 mm crochet hook and has a length of approximately 27 cm.

Crochet the Stem and Roots

The stem and roots are crocheted in one piece in Moos and Chestnut in rows with slip stitches and single crochet stitches.

Use the check boxes to mark your finished rounds, rows and steps.

  • Crochet the stem in rows in Moss.
  • Row 1: Crochet 70 chain stitches (70 stitches).

  • 1st Root: Color change to Chestnut. 16 chain stitches, 1 slip stitch into the 2nd stitch from the hook, 4 slip stitches, [6 chain stitches, 1 slip stitch into the 2nd stitch from the hook, 4 slip stitches, 5 slip stitches along the initial chain] repeat 2 times.

  • 2nd Root: 16 chain stitches, 1 slip stitch into the 2nd stitch from the hook, 4 slip stitches, [6 chain stitches, 1 slip stitch into the 2nd stitch from the hook, 4 slip stitches, 5 slip stitches along the initial chain] repeat 2 times.

  • 3rd Root: 16 chain stitches, 1 slip stitch into the 2nd stitch from the hook, 4 slip stitches, [6 chain stitches, 1 slip stitch into the 2nd stitch from the hook, 4 slip stitches, 5 slip stitches along the initial chain] repeat 2 times.

  • Push with the hook through the stitch left of the last crocheted root, yarn over and pull through. Repeat this for all further stitches between the respective roots. You have 4 loops on your hook.

  • There are now 4 loops on the crochet hook. Yarn over the Moss coloured thread from the stem and pull through all 4 loops.

  • Row 2: Continue crocheting with Moss. Crochet 57 sc along the initial chain.

  • Row 3: Crochet 14 chain stitches (14 stitches).

  • Row 4: 1 sc into the 2nd stitch from the hook, 12 sc (13 stitches).

  • Row 5: 13 sc along the initial chain.

  • Finish: Knot the two threads together and cut them close to the knot.

Crochet the Leaves

The leaves are crocheted in Maygreen in rows with chain stitches, slip stitches, single crochet stitches, double crochet stitches, treble crochet stitches and double treble crochet stitches.

  • Crochet the leaves in rows in Maygreen.
  • Step 1: Push the crochet hook through the 11th stitch, counted from the end of the stem where the knot is or from the end of the short stem. Stitch through one or both loops, depending on where you start, you have a different amount of loops available.

  • Step 2: Now yarn over the Maygreen colored thread and pull it through.

  • Step 3: Crochet 3 chain stitches and then 1 treble crochet stitch into the next stitch on the stem.

  • Step 4: Continue crocheting the first half of the leaf as follows: 4 double treble crochet stitches, 2 treble crochet stitches, 2 double crochet stitches, 2 sc into the next stitch.

  • Step 5: Now crochet the tip of the leaf. Crochet 2 chain stitches and then 1 slip stitch into the 2nd stitch from the hook.

  • Step 6: Now push the crochet hook through the 1st stitch on the not yet crocheted side. Crochet 2 sc into this stitch.

  • Step 7: Crochet the 2nd half of the leaf as follows: 2 double crochet, 2 treble crochet, 4 double treble crochet, 1 treble crochet. Crochet 3 chain stitches and then 1 slip stitch into the next stitch on the stem.

  • Crochet the second leaf according to the same pattern as the first.
  • Finish: Cut the threads and weave in.
